Los Angeles Aromatherapy

The Greeks, Romans and ancient Egyptians ...

all made use of aromatherapy oils. The Egyptian physician Imhotep, and the Greek father of medicine Hippocrates, recommended fragrant oils for bathing and massage.

In the 1930s, French chemist Rene-Maurics Gattefosse, the originator of the term aromatherapy, developed the practice as it is known today.

Essential oils are used to both calm and invigorate, depending on the oil, and are dispensed in steam, vaporizers or as part of a bath or relaxing massage. Finding acceptance as adjunct therapies in the world of medicine, essential oils are used in hospitals as pain relief for women in labor, to help cancer patients deal with the side effects of chemotherapy, and to help rehabilitate cardiac patients.
